The competition is organized by the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University.The CDS Documentary Essay Prize honors the best in documentary photography and writing in alternating years: one year, photos; one year, writing. The 2016 prize competition is for photography.
All entries must have one thing in common: evidence that they were created with reliance on documentary methods and immersive fieldwork.
You will be asked to provide the following:
• 15 photographs in digital format
• 1-page statement in pdf format (context for the photographic essay you are submitting, including the duration of your project and whether it is completed or ongoing. Describe your intentions for the work).
• 1-page biography or C.V. in pdf format
• $35 entry fee
The 2014 prize, for photography, was given to Iveta Vaivode for “Somewhere on a Disappearing Path”.
The winner will receive $3,000.
