The competition has 10 categories:
• three (3) ‘Portfolio’ categories:
– Land, Sea, Sky
– Journeys & Adventures
• three (3) ‘One Shot’ single image categories:
– Wildlife & Nature
– Cities – Architecture & Spaces
– Shaped by Light
• ‘Smart Shot’ category for images taken on a mobile phone or tablet
• ‘New Talent’ category
• HD Video category,
• Young Travel Photographer of the Year award (with two different age groups)
The entry fee for each portfolio category, New Talent and the HD Video categories is £15.
The entry fee for One Shot and Smart Shot is £8 per entry, and Young TPOTY is free to enter.
The TPOTY 2016 sponsors – Fujifilm, Genesis Imaging, Hurtigruten, Páramo Directional Clothing, Photo Iconic, Plastic Sandwich and StaaG – have provided a prize package worth around £30,000, and the winning photographers will see their work displayed at TPOTY exhibitions, including one at the University of Greenwich in London’s magnificent Maritime Greenwich UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The overall winner – the Travel Photographer of the Year 2016 – will be chosen from all entrants who submit at least two portfolios. In addition to the significant international exposure that comes with winning TPOTY, the Travel Photographer of the Year 2016 receives £4,000, a selection of StaaG luxury leather travel goods and sterling silver accessories (worth over £1250), £500 to spend on the Páramo clothing of their choice, and a Plastic Sandwich personalized leather portfolio case.
Fujifilm is sponsoring all three portfolio categories: Journeys & Adventures; Land, Sea, Sky, and Mankind, and the top entrant in each of these categories receives a Fujifilm X-Series camera and lens of their choice. Entrants submitting two or more portfolios will also automatically be eligible for overall top prize and the title of Travel Photographer of the Year 2016. The winner of the Best Single Image award in each portfolio category receives a giclée exhibition print from Genesis Imaging.
