The competition is open to all amateur photographers. There is no age limit for entering, and international entries will be accepted.
The contest is organised by the Amateur Photographer, a British photography magazine.
The contest is divided into eight monthly rounds, each one focusing on a specific theme.

The first entry to each round is free.
Prizes are awarded to the first-placed entrants for each round. The winner of each round will receive prizes from Sigma.
The title of Amateur Photographer of the Year will be determined by combining results across all eight rounds.
