Civilian Space Challenge by SpaceUnbound

SpaceUnbound in conjunction with SATINS and WimmerSpace invite you to compete for an opportunity to send your invention into space alongside the Helios on August 21st, 2017. The challenge is to create an innovative scientific payload or project that fits within the dimensions of your typical shoe box, is non-flammable, weigh under 20lbs, and directly benefit the scientific, civilian or commercial aerospace community.

Submissions will be placed on the outer science rack at the base of the Helios vehicle for the duration of the flight and exposed to weather elements and the harsh atmospheric conditions of near space. All submissions should be designed with an outer encasing that will be bolted down at the outer four corners.

The goal of the Helios mission is prove the viability of the first manned near space vehicle for use as a taxi platform for subsequent launches and innovations, as well a serve as the basis for the future of near space and space tourism. The launch date of August 21st, 2017 was chosen as it coincides with The Great American Eclipse, a rare total eclipse over North America, that will give the Helios team and the scientific and hobbyist community aboard a unique glimpse of a celestial event from 140,000ft above the Earth, live in HD and recorded in 360 HD VR.
