Hackatown is back in 2021 for a fifth edition. If you like coding, working in a team, networking and bringing your ideas to life, come join us online from February 5 to 7 to participate!
This is a 48-hour hackathon whose theme is the green & smart city with a novelty this time: four distinct categories in the theme of ecological transition. The challenge is to develop a mobile, desktop or web application constituting a functional service to support industry, commerce or individuals in the process of decarbonization. On our side, we will have data and APIs for you to discover in addition to having a mentor section where you can obtain technical assistance at will.
The following topics adhere to the carbon neutrality objectives that the city of Montreal has set for 2050.
– Energy use and efficiency – Reduced energy consumption in homes and commercial buildings. Local production and distribution of electricity and community projects. Using digital technology to match demand with clean energy supply. Digital solution promoting the use of renewable energy. Simulation of climate projection models.
– Transport and mobility – With the current situation, digital technology can come to the aid in order to promote public transport while reducing road traffic. How can digital technology maximize the use of public transport, carpooling and rental systems? Can digital help distribution and delivery networks support increased purchases of products and groceries online? How can digital technology reduce emissions in maritime or air transport?
– Building the economy of tomorrow – How to promote the green and inclusive economy? How to promote the purchase of local products? With the principles of sustainable development, how can we reduce the ecological footprint, promote reuse and recycling?
– Agriculture and food – Reduce food losses and waste. Strengthen food security. Improve pesticide use practices. Develop a digital solution promoting efficiency in agricultural production and the development of urban agriculture. About 14% of the food produced in the world is lost before it even reaches the market and this represents 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions.
