IMPORTANT MUST WATCH: Check out this VIDEO to get an in-depth understanding of what Hot Wheels Ai is all about, and how the system of play actually works.

This project is only open to US residents only.

DON’T STOP READING… KEEP GOING!!!

OFFICIAL RULES

The primary goal of this Project is to create a YouTube Series that centers around the Hot Wheels Ai track smart racing system complete with smart cars that can read the track and feature Mario Kart, Batman, or “Street Racing” themed tracks and vehicles. The Series should engage and inform the Hot Wheels fanboy (8-10 years old) and be focused on the Hot Wheels Ai playset. The Series must work off the Series Episode Outline attached in the assets section below.

  • PITCH MANDATORIES: Your Series Pitch should address your vision for the Series. In your treatment please address how you will approach the story, characters, and tone of the Series. Also discuss how you will approach filming and featuring the various Hot Wheels Ai playsets and vehicles in your execution. Lastly, speak to your approach of working with child actors and speak to any previous experience working with children.
  • TONE: Your Series Concepts should be about having fun— action, racing and stunts should be featured. Episodes should feel cool and exciting. Risk-taking and thrill-seeking are at the core of Hot Wheels Ai. IMPORTANT: TECHNOLOGY CAN BE MENTIONED IN YOUR SCRIPTS, BUT DO NOT FOCUS SOLELY ON THE TECHNOLOGICAL ASPECT OF HOT WHEELS Ai IN YOUR EXECUTION.
  • KEY MARKETING MESSAGE: Hot Wheels Ai offers a system of play that allows you to bring your favorite racing disciplines and characters together in one epic race.
  • CHARACTER: Boys (11 – 13 years old) play roles in the Series. The main character is a young boy that is aspirational, relatable and genuine. THE CARS CAN’T TALK!
    • MARIO KART: The only Nintendo car characters that can be featured are: Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Bowser, & Peach.
    • BATMAN: The only Batman car characters that can be featured are: Batman & The Joker.
  • STORY: IMPORTANT SEE EPISODE BREAKOUT IN ASSET SECTION. Stories should focus on the Hot Wheels Ai original/base playset and will feature Mario Kart, Batman, or Street Racing themed stories. Please note that Mario Kart and Batman cannot crossover into each other’s worlds (no Batman racing Mario!).
  • CASTING: This Project includes a Screen Test during Pre-Production. Screen Testing will involve filming top choice actors on camera in a way that will replicate the look and feel of the Series. THIS IS NOT AN AUDITION TAPE. More information about the Screen Test will be provided to the Pitch Winner.
  • AUDIENCE: Concepts should be aimed at Boys 8 to 10 years old who are risk takers, thrill seekers, and tech savvy.
  • FORMAT: Live-Action with optional elements of animation. Each episode will highlight a specific Hot Wheels Ai product to be featured in every episode. See episode breakout in assets for more details.
  • CUTTING ROOM FLOOR (REALLY IMPORTANT!): Here’s what you should avoid in your Series—NO TALKING CARS with animated mouths, NO TECH FOCUSED stories, NO LICENSED CHARACTER CROSSOVERS (Batman can’t race Mario), no overly expensive stunts, no adult themes and no children in danger.

KEY PRODUCT FEATURES:

  • Hot Wheels Ai Smart Car is equipped with two smart sensors that dynamically read the Smart Track at 200x second.
  • Game Modes: Three race modes, including Championship Mode (race against friends or AI), Practice Mode (fastest lap), and Freeplay Mode (who needs the track? Go anywhere with the Smart Car)
  • Customization: Interchangeable Smart Car body.
  • Virtual Hazards: Launch virtual hazards at your opponent like oil slicks and tire blowouts
  • Tracks: 40 pre-designed track configurations for the Street Racing Starter Set, or customize your own track with unique twists and turns.
  • Interactive Gaming Controller: Control your Smart Car with a trigger throttle and joystick steering, while real-time race announcements and sound FX keep you immersed in epic action.

PRE-PRODUCTION NOTE: This project includes a Pre-Production Phase (What is a Pre-Production Phase?). This means you will be required to submit certain items for Approval before moving onto the Video Phase. The Approval items for this project are:

  • HEADSHOT  – This project requires Headshot Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. You must submit at least FIVE actor options per starring role, and TWO actor options per supporting role. If the brand does not approve either of your options for a role, you may be asked to submit two new actor options.
  • SCREEN TEST – This project requires a Screen Test to audition the top 3 select actors for each featured role. The Screen Test will consist of a minimum 20 second scene from the Series that mimics the look and tone of the anticipated final videos. The Screen Test will require filming multiple combinations of actors for all featured roles. The Screen Test will require hair and makeup artists on set. Screen Test will be provided to brand for actor selection

The brand may provide feedback on your location and ask you to submit additional photos or to find a new location and submit images for that.

IMPORTANT: No filmmakers may begin shooting their Video until all Approvals are completed and the Video Phase has officially begun. If you begin shooting your Video during the Pre-Production Phase, there is a chance you will need to reshoot (at your own expense) so please don’t jump the gun.
If you’re selected as a Pitch Winner, a Tongal producer will email you to help walk you through the Pre-Production and Approvals process.

NOTE: The Series will consist of Six (6) episodes that are each one (1) minute in length at a minimum, not to exceed three (3) minutes in length at a maximum. Each episode will require a fifteen (15) second trailer to be submitted along with each video, along with five (5) still per video. This Project will be worth a total of $70,000 and consists of 4 Phases: a Pitch Phase, a Pre-Production Phase, a Video Phase, and a Revision Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

PHASE 1: PITCH – Submit your Pitch (What is a Pitch Phase?) convincing the Sponsor why you should be selected to execute a Video based on one of the winning Ideas from the previous Phase using:

  • Text (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute this Video.
  • Links (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.
  • Treatment (REQUIRED): A detailed narrative description of what’s going to happen in the video.
  • Pitch Video (REQUIRED): This is your opportunity to show us what you’re capable of. Consider submitting a Pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your Pitch. Also, test videos, animatics, etc. are welcome.
  • Script (Optional): This should include dialogue from the video you intend to create.
  • Storyboards (Optional): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, anything that helps get your point across.
  • Headshots/Casting Boards (Optional): Casting notes or concepts, headshots of actors, etc.

The most compelling Pitch will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will each receive $35,000 to help create the Video. Additionally, upon submitting a Video that satisfies the criteria laid out in your winning Pitch, the Pitch winner will also be GUARANTEED a winning place in the subsequent Video Phase.  So, if your Pitch is selected and you execute your Pitch effectively in your Video submission, you will win an additional $35,000 at a minimum. For an example of an effective Pitch, check out The Indie Machines winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs” Pitch video. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced and the Project is complete.

PHASE 2: PRE-PRODUCTION – The # of Pitch Winners from the Pitch Phase will enter the Pre-Production Phase (What is a Pre-Production Phase?). During this phase, filmmakers will need to receive the following Approvals from the brand:

  • SCRIPT  – This project requires Script Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. The brand may provide feedback on your Script and ask you to submit a new version. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until a Script is approved by the brand.
  • LOCATION – This project requires Location Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. This means you will need to submit multiple images of your primary filming. The brand may provide feedback on your location and ask you to submit additional photos or to find a new location and submit images for that.

No filmmakers may begin shooting their Video until all Approvals are completed and the Video Phase has officially begun. If you begin shooting your Video during the Pre-Production Phase, there is a chance you will need to reshoot (at your own expense) so please don’t jump the gun.

PHASE 3: VIDEO – Once the Pre-Production Phase is complete, the Pitch Winner will each create Six, two-minute Videos based upon their winning Pitch, Six 15-second trailers (one per episode), and 30 still images (5 per episode).

NOTE: The 15-second trailer per video are due at the same time as the episode delivery dates. Please upload them as separate videos when submitting your Videos.

Working with Minors: If you are working with minors, please observe the local laws and regulations for working and/or filming with minors in your state or country. For example, obtain work permits, set up Coogan accounts, hire studio teachers, and observe proper working hours as applicable based on your location.

–Video Phase Payout: Winners of the Video Phase will earn the following prizes: 1st place $35,000.

–Music: Tongal has partnered with three premiere music providers: Jingle Punks, Killer Tracks and Epidemic Sound. Any of which can be used to source music for your Video submission to this Project. Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into Submissions to this Project and will not require a separate Music Release Form. To learn more about using each of these music providers, click on any of the provider’s names above.

Tongal members interested in a custom music solution for your project are invited to connect with SCORE A SCORE. They specialize in the creation of custom music, on-demand.

Their business model is based on a “name your price” system, so you can tell them what your budget is, and they will work with you to create a deal configuration that will work within the discussed parameters. Check out the FAQ for more information and how to contact SCORE A SCORE.

If you are selected as a winner and choose to use custom/original music, you must fill out and submit our Music Release Form. If you obtain music from other catalog providers, you must purchase the appropriate license at your own expense and submit it with our Music Release Form when you turn in your Video paperwork.

–Referral: Any Tongal member who refers one of the winning Video creators in this Project using the Tongal “Invite Friends” functionality will receive a referral fee equal to 5% of the amount won. That’s a potential $500 in bonus cash just for telling all of your talented friends about this Project! Check out more about our Referral Program in FAQ.

PHASE 4: REVISIONS – Once the Video Phase has closed, the winning submitters will enter the Revisions Phase (What is a Revisions Phase?). During this phase, filmmakers will perform reasonable edits on their Videos according to the Sponsor’s feedback. Once the Videos are finalized, the Sponsor will rank the Videos and winners will be announced.
