What we are looking for
We are seeking an innovative system tailored for the caravanning sector – a type of tourism that involves the use of campers or caravans. Within such settings, space is a premium, necessitating meticulously planned designs to address specific spatial needs.
In particular, the furnishings inside these vehicles are often designed with an eye towards flexibility, aiming to create extra space in specific scenarios through the repositioning or transformation of certain components.
The contest is centred around designing an innovative table leg that pairs with a dedicated support surface, and enables users to easily reconfigure and transform their living space.
At present, the table legs typically used in this context are primarily of two types: foldable and telescopic. In both instances, the table leg’s structure is designed to adjust the table’s height.
A common application of this can be seen in a system consisting of a table flanked by two side seats. By lowering the table to align with the seats, users can easily transform the space into a sleeping area, effectively creating a bed from the table and seats.

Guidelines
To ensure the successful implementation of your proposals, please consider the following guidelines:
Product type
You are invited to design an innovative table leg tailored for the caravanning sector. While considering its integration with a support surface, this comprehensive design should offer new features and functionalities that surpass current market offerings.
The table leg should make it easy to create additional space or repurpose the support surface as needed. It could also potentially offer the flexibility to meet needs beyond just space management.
Additional mechanical systems that support the new features of the product, such as tracks, anchoring points, etc., are acceptable.
Anchoring points should be designed for attachment to the floor and wall, with ceiling attachments being prohibited.
Given the need for frequent repositioning of the leg to adjust the configuration of the support surface, a design that is lightweight and easy to handle is a prerequisite.
The leg may optionally be retractable, but when visible, should exhibit meticulous attention to detail and aesthetics.
It’s crucial for the leg to ensure stability to the support surface, even during transit, through a stable base, anchoring points, or other solutions.
Detachment of the table-leg system to position it either inside or outside the vehicle is acceptable. In such cases, the system should possess the durability characteristics typical of outdoor products.
Please note that the support surface is not the focus of the contest. All innovation should be focused on the design of the leg and related components, including attachment features for securing to the vehicle structure. While the leg and additional mechanisms allow the support surface to be repositioned, folded, removed, or extended within the space, its design should remain straightforward and minimally complex.
Context of use
The leg and support surface are designed for use within campers and caravans. For an effective integration, tailoring the design to suit the specificities of these vehicles is crucial. We also encourage you to consider the distinctive needs of users managing limited, mobile living spaces.
The support surface will generally be positioned adjacent to a windowed wall.
Style
The design of the leg should emphasise aesthetics and details, reflecting a modern, minimalist style. Considering its use in a diverse range of campers and caravans, the leg should feature adaptable aesthetics and colours to suit various interiors. Conversely, the support surface will be tailored to match the unique style of each vehicle’s interior.
Materials and production/processing technologies
A range of materials and production methods are accepted for the leg’s creation, including:
Aluminium profiles: Cutting, milling, bending
Metal sheets: Laser cutting, bending, welding
Plastics: Injection moulding
The Sponsor places significant emphasis on economic sustainability when evaluating entries. Ensure your choices in materials and production methods align with this criterion.
Submission materials
Provide detailed descriptions and up to 5 images to effectively present your projects. Images should be in 4:3 format, with .jpg, .gif or .png file formats acceptable. The colour mode should be RGB and the maximum size of a single file should be 1 MB.
You’re invited to use the designated field on the submission page to attach a .zip archive containing the 3D files and high-resolution version of the project images. The maximum file size for the .zip archive is 100MB.
Judging criteria
When evaluating the submissions, the Sponsor will consider the following criteria:
