Expired: ZSL Animal Photography Prize

ZSL Animal Photography Prize

The competition is owned by the Zoological Society of London [ZSL], a charity dedicated to the protection of animals and their habitats.

Each entrant may submit a maximum of six (6) images into the competition. No more than one (1) image may be entered into a single category.

The contest is divided into six categories:

Catch Me If You Can
A hummingbird’s wings flap over 50 times a second. At times, the animal kingdom moves at a pace that, by comparison, can make our human world seem slow. The only way to preserve these unexpected and fleeting moments that wildlife alone can produce is to capture them on film.

Weird & Wonderful
This category celebrates the wonders of the animal kingdom’s intricate design by exploring how varied nature’s canvas truly is. Patterns, colours, tails, talons and teeth… animals have been the source of myth and legend, and inspiration of artists, throughout history. They continue to bedazzle and surprise to this day.

Size Matters
Calling all creatures great and small! From amoebas smaller than a sugar grain to blue whales the length of three double-decker buses, this category is as much concerned with sweeping panoramas as it is micrographs. It’s time to celebrate the size, scale and incredible diversity of the animal kingdom.

At Home In Their Habitat
As species and their habitats become increasingly threatened, viewing them in their home environments becomes rarer and all the more significant. This category cherishes wildlife still found in their natural homes – and draws awareness to the future challenges to be faced.

Deep and Meaningful
With over 70% of our planet’s surface covered in water, it’s often been commented that it’s ironic we call it Earth at all. This category is concerned with all creatures aquatic, beneath the surface of seas, rivers, ponds and puddles alike.

Urban City Life
Increasingly the habitats of humans and animals merge, creating conflict, surprise and compromise. This category explores and celebrates the fact that wildlife doesn’t only exist in the wild – it’s right on our doorsteps.
