Bharat Agri Innovation Grand Challenge is a national-level initiative to identify, support, and scale innovative startup solutions in precision farming, agri-logistics, traceability, and food processing. The challenge focuses on improving farm productivity, reducing post-harvest losses, strengthening value chains, and enhancing farmer incomes through technology-driven, scalable, and sustainable innovations aligned with India’s agri-growth priorities.
Open to Indian startups, MSMEs, and individual innovators working in health, wellness, nutrition, preventive healthcare, or allied domains.
Applicants must be incorporated or registered in India (DPIIT/Startup India recognition preferred but not mandatory at the time of application).
Startups at any stage—idea, prototype, MVP, pilot, or early commercialization—are eligible to apply.
Solutions should demonstrate innovation, affordability, scalability, and relevance to health and wellness challenges.
Individual innovators may apply and may be required to register an entity if selected for incentives.
Problem Statement
Low Farm Productivity & Climate Vulnerability
Indian agriculture continues to face challenges of low productivity due to fragmented landholdings, climate variability, inefficient input usage, and limited access to data-driven decision-making. There is a need for scalable, affordable, and climate-smart solutions that can improve yields while enhancing resilience against weather and environmental risks.
High Post-Harvest Losses & Inefficient Agri Logistics
A significant portion of agricultural produce is lost due to inadequate storage, weak cold-chain infrastructure, inefficient transportation, and lack of real-time traceability. Innovative solutions are required to strengthen agri-logistics, reduce losses, and ensure transparent and efficient movement from farm to market.
Limited Value Addition & Low Farmer Income
Most agricultural produce is sold in raw form with minimal processing, resulting in low value realization for farmers. There is a critical need for innovations in food processing, packaging, and preservation that can increase value addition, expand market opportunities, and enhance farmer incomes.
Inefficient Market Access & Price Discovery
Farmers often face challenges in accessing markets, discovering fair prices, and connecting directly with buyers due to fragmented systems and limited digital adoption. Scalable digital platforms and market-linkage solutions are needed to improve transparency, efficiency, and income realization.
Sustainability & Resource Inefficiency in Agriculture
Agricultural practices often result in inefficient use of water, energy, and natural resources, impacting long-term sustainability. There is a need for solutions that promote resource efficiency, environmental sustainability, and responsible agricultural practices without compromising productivity.
