Part of the American-Made Challenges series and sponsored by DOE’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, this prize aims to create an inclusive and just innovation ecosystem in climate and energy technologies. Funds will support underrepresented groups and organizations with ongoing or proposed incubation, acceleration, and other community-based innovation services and boost first-time applicants, including people and organizations from underrepresented communities, underserved and frontline communities, and those from other non-traditional backgrounds.
The primary goal of this prize is to fund organizations to hire one (or more) full-time-equivalent employee(s) to carry out activities that may include leading engagement efforts and building relationships with underserved and underrepresented communities in specific regions of the United States, and support applicants to apply for DOE and other federal funding opportunities.
The prize is designed to:
- Advance equity, civil rights, racial justice, and equal opportunities, a responsibility of the entire U.S. government, including DOE
- Identify and incentivize activities that help traditionally underrepresented groups apply for and receive DOE funding.
Prize winners and organizations that incubate and support startups and founders may receive additional grants through future prize phases or other funding opportunities.
