Creating an AI-powered platform for assessing and training the workforce of the future
Teams will work with cross-agency experts to create or refine an AI-powered skill assessment platform which will be used across the federal government to train and assess the workforce of the future.
The National Artificial Intelligence Institute (NAII) at the Department of Veterans Affairs invites interested teams of solvers to participate in a 90-Day AI Tech Sprint. Teams from industry, academia, and non-governmental organizations will embark on a sprint with subject matter experts and stakeholders from the Department of Veterans Affairs and other agencies. Teams will develop a new prototype or expand on an existing project to meet current skill identification and training needs across the federal government. NAII or VA staff will work with each team to iteratively refine a prototype into a viable solution for the goals of our prize challenge. Teams will participate in weekly meetings with government experts and researchers, see their solutions beta-tested, and complete two project milestones to demonstrate a prototype and receive feedback. The Tech Sprint culminates in an evaluation and public Demo Day, where participants receive recognition from the VA and other agencies in addition to $150,000 in total awards.
This Tech Sprint is focused on producing a demonstrator for the ASPIRE project. ASPIRE stands for All Services Personnel and Institutional Readiness Engine and is a cross-agency effort to equip the VA’s workforce of tomorrow in high-demand skills such as artificial intelligence. AI is becoming a more significant part of day-to-day agency functions, especially in scientific and clinical research. VA NAII’s expansive slate of AI in Health Care pilots looks to expand VA offerings and improve the care provided to our nation’s Veterans. It is critical that VA personnel must identify where AI can fit into clinical practice and in some cases apply or develop AI tools. ASPIRE will help agencies understand their employees’ skill sets in fields such as AI and ensure they meet the necessary standards for the safe, ethical, and accurate use of AI in their work. The ASPIRE demonstrator should provide an adaptive skills assessment to analyze AI needs and appropriately curate an individualized learning pathway.
Select projects may also receive offers to showcase their prototype routinely over the following months at various events and meetings with senior decision-makers across the government.
