The prestigious Lee Kong Chian Research Fellowship is now accepting applications for 2026! This unique six-month residential program invites scholars to delve into the extensive collections of the Lee Kong Chian Reference Library and the National Archives of Singapore. The fellowship offers an unparalleled opportunity to explore historical materials dating back to the 16th century, as well as a comprehensive modern collection focused on Singapore and Southeast Asia.
NLB plays a central role in preserving Singapore’s documentary heritage while promoting research, learning, and cultural engagement. Within its network, the Lee Kong Chian Reference Library stands out as a premier research hub, named after philanthropist Lee Kong Chian. The library houses one of the region’s most significant collections, including early European accounts of Southeast Asia, imprints from Singapore’s earliest printing presses, rare maps, manuscripts, and archival records documenting the social, cultural, and intellectual development of the region. Complementing this, the National Archives of Singapore preserves records of national and historical importance sourced from public institutions, private collections, and international repositories.
