The Health and Safety Solutions for Delivery Workers Challenge is an initiative by Eternal (formerly known as Zomato Limited) to identify startups developing practical, scalable, and user-centric innovations that strengthen the safety, health, and overall well-being of India’s delivery workforce.
Through this challenge, Eternal aims to reward innovators who are building technology-led, inclusive solutions that improve road safety, health protection, and accessibility for delivery partners, particularly women and persons with disabilities (PwDs).
Selected startups will receive monetary awards and opportunities to showcase their solutions as Eternal’s inclusive growth conference.
The startup should have a proof of concept, prototype, or pilot-stage solution in one or more of the following domains:
1. Two-wheeler road safety innovations
2. Mobility and safety solutions for women and PwDs
3. Sanitation solutions for on-road delivery workers
4. Safety and emergency response tools for delivery workers
5. Weather and pollution protection solutions
The innovation must be original, feasible, and scalable within India.
Selected startups must be willing to demonstrate their solution with Eternal.
Problem Statement
Two-Wheeler Road Safety Solutions
Delivery workers spend long hours navigating high-traffic areas, uneven roads, and unpredictable driving conditions, making them vulnerable to accidents and injuries. Innovations that enhance two-wheeler safety, such as speed management tools, AI-based road-risk alerts, gamified safety training, or smart helmets, can play a critical role in preventing accidents and promoting safer riding behaviour.
Roadworthy Mobility Solutions for Women and PwDs
Current delivery vehicles and equipment are not always inclusive for women or persons with disabilities (PwDs). There is a need for ergonomic, accessible, and safe mobility solutions such as custom trikes, adapted bikes, or specialized riding gear that can enable broader participation in the delivery workforce, thereby improving diversity and inclusion in the gig economy.
Public Sanitation Solutions for Delivery Workers
Many delivery partners spend 8–12 hours on roads without access to hygienic and safe sanitation facilities. This affects their health, dignity, and productivity. Startups can address this through portable sanitation products, mobile toilets, or partnership-based hygiene solutions that make sanitation affordable, accessible, and location-friendly for on-road delivery workers.
Safety and Emergency Solutions for Delivery Workers
Delivery partners often face safety risks during late-night hours, in isolated areas, or due to confrontations on roads. There is a pressing need for wearable alert systems, panic alarms, GPS-enabled emergency response tools, and humane solutions to manage animal threats that improve personal security and response time in emergencies.
Weather and Pollution Impact Management Solutions
Prolonged exposure to heat, rain, cold, and air pollution adversely affects delivery workers’ health and performance. Innovations like cooling vests, advanced dust-control masks, rain protection gear, and air-quality adaptive wearables can significantly reduce the health risks caused by environmental exposure, ensuring comfort and resilience for delivery workers.
