We sell a product called BlueDEF that comes in a 2.5 gallon box and is added to diesel engines to reduce harmful emissions. When you purchase the product, it comes with a screw-on nozzle that can be attached to the box to make it easier to pour into the proper engine receptacle. Unfortunately, the screw-on nozzle can leak/drip for a couple of reasons:
- If the user doesn’t screw it on perfectly, liquid can seep through the connection point, making it leak out of the box
- The screw-on nozzle has an air vent on it. When the user screws it on, if the vent is not at the top of the nozzle, then liquid will drip out the vent.
We are interested in new ideas for how to solve this problem to give our customers a better experience when they pour BlueDEF into their engines. Attached to the challenge page are images of the existing BlueDEF bottle as well as the current screw-on nozzle to help you in your idea generation.
Considerations:Â We have already explored the following solutions, so please submit something that does NOT replicate one of these ideas:
- Putting an extendable nozzle into the jug itself instead of making it a separate screw-on nozzle
- Adding an o-ring inside the screw-on nozzle
Deliverables
1)Â Propose a solution to prevent spills/drips when our customers pour their BlueDEF purchases into their engines
- Specify how your solution solves the issue of spills/drips that we currently face
- Where did you get your inspiration for this idea?
2) If applicable, please include a sketch, rendering, or diagram of your idea showing what it would look like and how it works.
