Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), an initiative of Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industries, is being established as a first-of-its-kind initiative globally to pave the way for reimagining digital commerce in India and establishing it as a global pioneer. ONDC is being setup to promote interoperability and to create an open, inclusive, and competitive digital commerce marketplace. We are targeting to achieve this by digitalizing over one million businesses of all size, location, digital quotient and amplifying geographic and socio-economic coverage of digital commerce to 90 million buyers across 35,000 pin codes by 2027. ONDC will go beyond the current digital commerce model and will allow the buyer and seller to do business irrespective of the platforms they use to be digitally visible.
ONDC is being set up with the following objectives:
Promote interoperability through an open network based on open protocols and open source specifications
Be an enabler with minimalistic public digital infrastructure
Be scale efficient and build for population-scale adoption
Make digital commerce small-business friendly
Pave the way to unlock innovation for reimagining digital commerce (From platforms to protocols!)
Accordingly, as per the guidance of DPIIT, a project management unit has been setup under the aegis of Quality Council of India (QCI) to convert ONDC concept to the reality. QCI has engaged ONDC Core team comprising of experts with prior experience in design and development of other population scale initiatives for leading the charge of implementation of ONDC.
In order to enable participation from wider digital commerce community on ONDC, QCI is organizing the ONDC Grand Hackathon from 7th – 9th January 2022 with following objectives:
