Schwarzman Scholars are selected from an international pool of distinguished candidates. Prospective Scholars are expected to demonstrate academic excellence, exceptional results in their field and outstanding leadership qualities.
What We’re Looking For Our cohort of global leaders reflects the diversity, vibrancy and promise of the world at large. Schwarzman Scholars embrace the opportunity to understand other cultures, perspectives and positions. Candidates who are most qualified to meet the high demands of the program must exhibit excellence in multiple areas.
For the Schwarzman Scholars program, the application timeline differs slightly depending on the applicant’s region. U.S. and global applicants may submit their applications between April 8 and September 9, 2026, with selections taking place in October and November of that year. The program officially begins in August 2027. Meanwhile, applicants from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan follow an earlier schedule, with applications accepted from January to May 2026, selections occurring in June and July, and the program likewise commencing in August 2027. This structured timeline ensures a coordinated selection process across diverse applicant groups.
A distinguished committee, composed of leaders from business, government, and academia worldwide, carefully reviews applications to the Schwarzman Scholars program. From this pool, a selected group of candidates is invited to interviews held in late October and early November, conducted by an international panel of leaders representing diverse backgrounds.
These interviewers draw upon their leadership experience to identify highly accomplished individuals whose future paths will be strengthened by exposure to China and its global role. Ultimately, the program seeks young leaders with the drive and ambition to make meaningful progress on issues of significant importance.
