We are seeking cost-effective and reliable solutions that can correct pairing of the two parts, the crown wheel and drive pinion. It should be scalable across all part variants and seamlessly integrate into the existing production workflow.

Drive pinions and crown wheels for each automotive axle are manufactured as a pair and machined to achieve optimal and unique tooth form adjusted at the factory to work together, ensuring a precise fit and contact pattern, depth, width and spacing for that specific fit. It is thus necessary that each pair of crown wheel and pinion gears are marked so that the correct pair is assembled by the operator. To enable the operator to pick the correct pairing, currently, the ‘crown wheel and pinion wheel (pair)” are marked with the same code. and is done using acid marking. This marking however, gets smudged or erased or hidden which makes it difficult to identify the exact pairing. The parts are made of alloy steels and weighs approx. 7-19 kgs.

We are thus seeking cost-effective and reliable solutions that can correct pairing of the two parts, the crown wheel and drive pinion. It should be scalable across all part variants and seamlessly integrate into the existing production workflow (400 assemblies/day).

Awards:- 

Reward money is paid in exchange of legally acquiring the solution, implementing it to solve the problem and meeting the success criteria. Milestones for paying the reward money would depend upon the complexity of challenge and maturity of the proposed solution, which would be discussed with the solver as soon as the proposed solution is selected by us.
