During the upcoming UEFA Euro 2020 Football Championship, PayPal is looking for a visionary filmmaker that can assemble a team to direct, produce, and edit a fast-moving live-action video campaign, personally directing the hero video, while simultaneously coordinating multiple satellite shoots around the globe, all designed to show how PayPal’s products can help European fans & consumers in celebrating the tournament together.
The COVID-19 pandemic upended countless big events last year, and the UEFA Euro 2020 Football Championship was no different – but better days are on the horizon. See, the 2020 tournament’s finally expected to proceed this June, and hundreds of millions of fans are getting excited. To call this a moment of catharsis is an understatement. The beautiful game – back on a big stage, in a big way – bringing people from all of Europe together …even the “casual” fans. It’s that togetherness that’s why we’re here. PayPal knows football brings about community and connection in a way that few things can, and it just so happens that PayPal products stand at the unique intersection of connection and commerce – helping European consumers to celebrate with friends and family and make the most of their experience.
This project itself is expansive and very fast-moving: PayPal needs a creative campaign director who can put together a team to script, storyboard, produce, and edit a package of 4 core live-action videos, taking point on shooting the brand hero video that will anchor the campaign, while simultaneously coordinating 3 different satellite shoots with other filmmakers from around the world, each with their own separate budget. Almost all of the pre-production and post-production materials will flow through you, including any motion graphics, and while you’ll only physically produce the hero video, you’ll supervise and provide creative direction to 3 other filmmakers who will be shooting product videos. A “big idea” for this campaign is being developed in parallel, but it’s like to be more about the copy than a video concept, and either way we know this will revolve around smaller live-action shoots focused on fandom and togetherness. For your Pitch submission, we’re asking you to edit together a :15 proof-of-concept sample video demonstrating a potential approach to the hero video that celebrates casual fans of the game coming together. This sample video is about your instinct for pacing, tone, framing, video structure, motion graphics, as well as finding a way to tell a simple story in an emotionally engaging way. You may use whatever footage you can find online, as well as temp motion graphics.
