Road safety is an emerging trend nowadays. Road traffic accidents (RTA) is a global disaster hampering the life of millions. Every day 414 valuables’ lives are lost due to road accidents. Road safety reflects the character of a person. After many road safety campaigns and awareness programs, there is still an increase in deaths in India, ranking first in the number of road accident deaths across the 199 countries and accounting for almost 11% of the accident-related deaths in the World. Not only in India, Road traffic continues to be a major developmental issue, a public health concern, and is a leading cause of death and injury across the World killing more than 1.35 million globally as reported in the Global Status report on Road Safety 2018 with 90% of these casualties taking place in the developing countries.
Indian Road Safety Campaign and Ministry of Road Transport and Highways have launched this Hackathon during National Road Safety Month to invite unique innovations that have the potential to change the scenario of road safety in India.
1. Driver Behaviour
Improving driver skills and building applications and/or simplistic integrable devices that can make driving much more easier and efficient. Here, we aim to target both domestic as well as commercial drivers. Such improved techniques and assistive technologies can prove to be very beneficial in bringing down the number of accidents.
2. ROAD CONDITIONS
We find bad road conditions to be one of the most difficult problems to tackle with an on-ground implementation because of the cost, labour and logistics required. Hence, we shall be looking for some feasible technological or digital solution so as to monitor and handle such problems efficiently.
3. FRAUD DETECTION/TPA INSURANCE
It is found that in general, more accidents are caused by rookies and unauthorised drivers. It is sought that some technology may be employed to make the task of analysing and detecting frauds on the roads is made easier. Here, frauds include underage drivers, drunk driving, drivers without appropriate licenses, etc.
4. CONNECTION WITH LOCAL AUTHORITIES
Build a Seamless platform to communicate/highlight issues with the local authorities and central ministry over various issues and reporting problems by the locals.
5. CRASH INVESTIGATION
Analysing why an accident happened is a very important aspect of our endeavour to build safer roads. If we can come up with a web-tool/app that can make crash investigation easy and help us perform the same in a systematic way, should be a game changer.
6. EMERGENCY CONNECT
Working on an web/tool that can improve the post accident emergency space in India. From working on making it easy for the victims to claim financial support to the process of getting an ambulance- there is a lot of gap in the space that can be worked upon by using technology to improve the same.
7. LEGAL CONNECT
Working in law space to help people with all the legal solutions at the tap of the button.
8. VEHICLE FITNESS
People most often do not know whether their vehicle is in the best state to undertake the journey. We can come up with a solution that can help citizens evaluate the state of their vehicle before every drive and help them with any issues before they start to have safe journeys.
9. JOURNEY RISK MANAGEMENT
An app/website that can perform JRM for auditors and identify areas which can be improved.
10. SMART ANALYZER
A free tool can be developed for the police of the nation that can help them monitor speed of the vehicles, implement odd-even policies, track fitness of the vehicles and age of the same, person wearing helmet or not, has the seat belt on or not based on continuous video feeds.
11. GAMIFICATION OF ROAD SAFETY
Innovative games/VR Bases approaches that can be used to teach kids people about road-safety using Traffic Simulations or various other approaches.
- All the submitted applications would be reviewed by our evaluators under different focus areas. Each application will be assessed by a set of evaluators to ensure the best submission gets selected for the next round.
- The applications will be evaluated on different parameters, including but not limited to the market need, novelty of the idea/innovation, stage of development, scalability, potential impact, technical & financial feasibility, commercialization capacity, the team, and the overall business plan.
- The evaluators reserve the right to select or reject any submission without assigning any reasons whatsoever and without thereby incurring any liability to the participant(s) whatsoever.
