Lighting design can make or break a visual effects scene. Even the most subtle changes in the placement of the lights can have outsized consequences in setting the tone and guiding the emotions of a viewer. As artistic movements such as German Expressionism and Film Noir have shown, lighting can even be considered a character, in its own right. Truly great lighting can help tell a story and provide illumination (in more than one sense).
In the Make it Glow Contest we want you to wow us with your lighting prowess. Demonstrate your skills with creative and innovative visual effects lighting design. The theme of the scene that you create is ultimately up to you, but be sure to put an emphasis on your use of lighting to set the stage.
In your instructable, in addition to your renderings or final animation, show us your step-by-step process for creating the scene. Include elements like concept sketches, and your process for modeling, rigging, rendering and animation. We want to see the totality of your creativity and visual effect skills and how you use software and practical effects to bring your designs to life.
Requirements
- Submit a step-by-step visual effects-themed Instructable related to lighting design.
- Share your design process and include the final 3D renderings or animation of the scene.
- Participant must be a student enrolled in high school or a post-secondary institution, and in good standing.
